lol M3?? stock BMW shifters feel cheap and crappy, yes even the E46 M3. Sat in one at a dealership and was like dang this shifter feels like @$$, like it's about to break off.
Miatas and S2000's on the other hand have about the best stock shifters on the planet. Mine feels about like a Miata.

Always make sure you get a stainless steel short shifter, not an aluminum one. Skunk 2, B&M, and a few other companies make stainless short shifters that are going to be stronger than aluminum.
it should shift as easy as the stock shifter did.

thats why short shifters are gay as fawk and mess up trannies. just get a type r or gsr duel bend (skunk2 copies this and puts there name on it and jacks up the price) and put a weighted shift **** on it ( skunk2 ,ARC, Circuit hero...) and the gears are thrown into place with ease. End

what the hell are you talking about, Skunk2 is NOT just a "copy" of the GS-R shifter.
I've had an aluminum short-throw shifter (AutoZone's copy of a DC Sports shifter) for over 5 years without problems. My tranny has 252K miles on it with no grinds whatsoever. Shifts are short and precise and feel great. I can't stand the row-boat stock shifters.
And as I've repeated so many times before, short shifters DO NOT mess up transmissions. The drivers who shift them are who mess up transmissions.
