When i turn on my music, i can keep it on low but once i turn it up a bit, the sound would stop, the cd player is still going though. A buddy told me my alternator was shot not to long ago, could this be the reason. Any input wouls be greatky appreciated, thanks

 

Have your alt tested at autozone, this would not cause your problem, more than likely an internal problem to the head unit, the radio would pull current from the battery to maintain the load (volume) desired.

Typical load results are around 60A-80A @ 12V

 

Do you have a capicitor ( sp? ). You might be overloading your battery and alternator everytime the subs bump. Do your lights dim at all when it is working?

If that was the case it would pump everything it possibly could, and never get any louder once the system is supplying all that it can. It simply would not turn the volume off....

 

well the subs aare not even hooked up yet. I just put in the 5 and the 6x9 first to make sure everything was working. i heard that it is my amp going into safe mode or something. I didnt even know there was a amp for the internal speakers. I never bout one.

 

there isnt a amp for internal speakers unless u put one in like i did. wat is ur cd player rated at for watts and all that. ur cd player might not have enugh power too push ur new speakers and since u turn it up the cd player would turn off the volume if u leave it up all the way for to long, that was my prob if this is the case just put a amp in to take care of the prob. but it could be a different problem so good luck....

 

Yes there is an amplifier, just not in the traditional sense. The ones in most head units are controlled by field effect transistors similar to MOSFET powered amps. Most head units indicate a rating such as 46Wx4 indicating an amplification of power has taken place. This is the reason most units have a thick *** slab of aluminum on the rear of the unit, to cool the transistors. A speaker produces sound when power is supplied regardless, it just a matter of whether or not you can hear it, and 46RMS Watts would be VERY audible to a midrange or tweeter, and would pump a sub up enough to make some rattle.

I still believe it is a fault in the head unit.
