Default missed second gear on a turn, now it dos'nt work at all

I was turning and was shifting into second gear, and it grinded like crazy after that i lost second gear, every time i try to shift into it my motor starts to sutter, i mean every time i try to force it in, but it never go's in anyone have similar problem, I had the same issue on my jetta, but all that was wrong was my shift linkage had bent, I hammered it all out and it was fine, but on the civic i checked the linkage and everything was fine.

You probably ground the gear teeth... or broke a synchro. The only way to fix this one is cracking the tranny open and going from there.

I don't know, the tranny is practically new, it has only 25k miles on it, with no rebuild

You should have been shifting more carefully then.
Sorry but this sounds like it is going to be an expensive fix. Most likely synchros.

Do the gears themselves have the teeth or do they have holes for the teeth?

I am not a tranny "expert" but I am almost positive its gear teeth.

The tranny is new, but it can still grind nasty when you don't shift right. This can only cause extreem gear wear and then possibly break a synchro.

Synchros die after you try to ram it into gear even thought you know it doesn't work.

Just rebuilt a type r tranny today that could not shift and hold 2nd 3rd or 5th gear, turns out the only damage done was the mainshaft bearings failed, causing the grinding.

Since the 2nd gear blues is very common, I would suspect the mainshaft bearings, based on experience. I've had to replace synchros and hubs before, but only because jackasses keep trying to shift into a gear that doesn't work. If it grinds it still has teeth, you wont know the condition until you pull it apart. One hub I saw was forced into gear so badly that it blued the synchro hub, and in that one case i needed to order a new 2nd gear, hub, slider, synchro ring, and spring, the price shoots up really fast, haven't even mentioned bearings or seals yet....

since you say it shutters when you force it into gear theres obviously some teeth left on the gear so most likly its a synchro

Explain to me how a shutter relates to synchro failure. Even if a synchro failed the clashing would eventually speed the the countershaft up enough to engage it, even a very hard shift would engage the gear.

As for the thread owner, please clarify your problem with better words.

well it all happened after a grind, now when i try to shift into it, it dosent grind, the engine just shutters like its going to die, its a d16y7 engine and tranny, so i'm not going to rebuild it, i'm prolly just switch it for one with bertter gear ratios what would be the best to switch it with
