Setting Gains with DMM. go by speaker or amp rms
So I took the advice of a few on this board on how to set by ear and its worked out pretty good. Ive been reading about how to set gains with a dmm and am going to try that to compare how things sound since this way would put less stress on the equipment if I did tune wrong by ear. When figuring out what the target voltage should be, do I go by max rms wattage the speaker can handle or what the amp can put out. For example, I have a 12jlw6v2 which is rated at 400rms power handling and the amp I have is the kicker 600.1. Birthsheet on that states 726 watts Should I plug in the 400rms into the formula to ease overpowering the sub or the amps 600rms and max out the amp? Im sure the jl sub can take about 100 over its 400 rms so should I plug in the number inbetween?
Set it to w.e. you want ur power output to be..within the given watts of the amp
Also depending on what ohm load you have the amp seeing...id set it around 500watts..because ur bound to have some imp. rise to compensate for
And no you wont have to break-in ur sub...itll do that on its own as you play it...good luck
Any other questions feel free to pm
