Weird rev bounce at part-throttle launch....
Just ran the new build at the track this past weekend. There were lots of little things we had to fix, but it ran pretty quick when it did get a semi-clean run. Only problem is, when launching & trying to hold the revs at a certain point, it will bounce from about 4500rpm to about 6000-6500rpm. So, i either have to launch low and bog at the line or launch high, which i don't wanna do.
I tuned the car on crome.
Vtec engages at 5200rpm.
We disabled VSS vtec engage.... so that i don't have to be rolling to engage vtec... i wanted to be able to launch while in vtec. So i dunno if that's what the problem is. I dunno if maybe the oil pressure fluctuates and kicks the vtec solenoid on and off.
I used to have a launch control set at 4800 rpm, but i asked him to take it off.... i dunno if there's some sort of little bit of that left that might still be programmed in. I don't think so though...i can hammer the throttle and bounce it off the rev limiter.
We only did full throttle tune as it's not a street car.... so maybe launching at part throttle with it untuned is doing something weird??
There's a considerable dip in hp/tq when vtec engages as well.... so maybe that's it??
I really have no idea why it's doing this. Here's a video to show you guys an example of what it's doing. Lemme know if you guys have any ideas or know what it is!

Sorry.... i didn't personally tune the car. Paul @ Splitfire tuned it.... and he knows what he's doing.

But that's besides the point.... anyone got any ideas?

He knows what he's doing but can't track down a revving issue? I don't understand.
The IDEA would be 1)take back to tuner for troubleshoot------2)search miles of PGMFI.org threads for users with similar issues......or 3)ditch the Unsupported hacker program for a system with Tech Support.
How did the car make it off the dyno with an issue like this?

launch control isnt going to have a 1500-2000 rpm window.
if he tuned it, why is there still a dip at the vtec crossover? I would try putting the vss vtec engage back to normal and set the launch control where you want it.
i've never heard of this problem before and im pretty proficient with crome.
your engine sounds very healthy in the video

i'm just grasping at straws here.... i really don't know why it bounces like that
and i don't know why there's still a dip at the vtec crossover.... he had a hard time tuning it though.... the bottom end needs to get redone... it's starting to puff a little bit of oil, which is why he had a hard time tuning it.... he said the oil was messing with the AFR reading

if you are burning oil bad enough to mess with the a/f you got bigger problems than a revlimiiter issue. Sounds like he is just coming up with an excuse to me.
can you maybe take a picture of the menu where all your options are set?

i don't think it's THAT bad... you can't see it puff in the video so it can't be that bad
and i can't take a picture because he's the one who tuned it.... all that info is on his computer at his shop

well ask him if you can snap a pic than! He shouldn't mind unless he's not setting things up correctly!
yeah.... only problem is, he's 4 hours away from me... i live in Sudbury, Ontario... his shop is in Toronto, Ontario
it sucks living up here because all my resources are hours away....

it especially sucks living in northern Ontario. There are no shops that know what they're doing. EVERYTHING is down in southern Ontario. All the good shops and the real tracks. We get 3 weekends worth of airport 1/8th mile drag racing up here during the summer. It's pretty stupid.... you gotta travel 4+ hours to race anywhere decent.

still having issues with the car
ran it 2 weeks ago, but more problems....
it kept boucing when i'd launch it, which isn't anything new
but at the end of the weekend, it would fall on its face when it engaged vtec
it felt like i took my foot completely off the gas pedal as soon as it engaged vtec
i checked out my ecu and it's fine.... i'm hoping it's something wrong with the chip
i'm getting him to ship me up 2 chips, should be in this week
i'll keep you guys posted and hopefully i can figure it out

the bounce is called your two step. You likely have it set to limit the rpm at 6k and resume at 4500, which would make the rev limit bounce that far.
take off your vtec solenoid and clean it.
