Default 99 prelude question?

I'm owned 3rd and 4th gens, and I'm thinking of buying a 99 prelude. I noticed on this 99 prelude something that others didn't have. It has STOCK leather interior, but no spoiler? weird if you ask me. What are the differences in the 97-01 models? Some have spoilers, most don't have leather. How can you tell just by looking at it if it's an SH? What's so great about SH besides an extra 300 lbs? Just a few questions for an experienced 5th gen owner to help me out with, thanks.

ps. I did read FAQ's, but didn't seem to answer the question about the difference in leather, spoilers, etc.

The ones with spoilers are type "SH" (super handling) which has a ATTS (Active Torque Transfer System) that makes the car handle much much better.

I have a 97, but it doesn't have a leather interior. (unless you were surprised at the fact that some come stock with leather).

Years 99-01 by factory specs have 5 more horsepower.

That's just a base with leather.

The spoiler was an option on bases, some have them some don't. All SHs do, unless they took them off/swapped trunks/whatever.

they made bases with leather? that surprises me. It seems they would put the leather in SH?

As I recall, leather was not an option on the 5th gen here in the states. Some dealers may have sold it as an option, but it didn't come from the factory that way. A lot of people installed it themselves, leather seat covers can be had for something like $600. This is all from memory, so I could be mistaken.

yes, leather was an option, they didn't put it every prelude to cut down on the cost just a tiny bit.

the owner bought it with the prelude in it from the dealership, so I doubt it was done right after it was manufactured. It's honda OEM seats. I do plan on getting it, so I will be adding another prelude to my collection here shortly

ask on preludepower.com or socalprelude.com

i have a 99 based prelude. get it. its an awesome car. very quick. not common like civics or teggies.. sits VERY Low like its lower when its not.

but it does burn oil and takes only premium..but resale value is high.

prelude's leather are an option from dealer. SH came with spoiler, interior door lights, 5 spd only, 5 spoke wheels, colored skirts, and no middle brake light inside but rather on the spoiler, and an ats that makes the car corner much better. its like an lsd but computer controlled.

and preludes are 200hp. if you plan on modifying like crazy, then buy non sh, cuz the type sh caps out like at 220hp.

The SH does not have 220HP, I know that for a fact, and as you can see by my signature, I don't need a fast prelude, I already have one. I know the SH did come with several more options that few people would even notice or care about. Not all Prelude's burn oil, you might have been unlucky. colored skirts? what are you talking about? you mean painted skirts? This is a base prelude, do you mean it comes with 5 spoke? or 5 lug? Mine is a 5 lug, and a 5 spoke, but it's a base meaning that they all came like that including SH's. And to bring up the 220HP, that's like a type-s or something, not a regular stock h22 in the SH's. If I'm wrong, may God strike me dead.

i think he means spokes like str8 spokes instead of blades
and 220whp when ATTS gives out (i thought it was 250)
and when his fatty gf rides in the car, its lowered.
burns oil + only takes premium, so pockets hurt.
but resale value is high, so that makes up for it.
sideskirts were painted ones instead of the black piece of plastic? iunno bout that one

thank you dagle for explaining. at least someone here understands me. and i know sh are same as base (200hp) but ats gives out like around 220-250hp.

colored skirts= painted skirts

and hte h22 eats more oil...ask any luders...a majority of them will say that they will add a quart of oil between oil changes.

and all 5th gen ludes are 5 lugs..the based had "gsr" type blades and the sh has spokes.

leather was a dealer option only it did not come from the factory from what i have seen. everone 5th gen leather seat has been just slightly different. i'd say save it and go for cloth and just swap them out for some bride seats!

okay, I feel stupid, you mean it GIVES OUT, as in "cuts off" at around 220-250, I apologize, I read your post wrong. I thought you meant that when you cut it off you get around 220-250hp on your stock motor with no ATTS. No dis-respect.

Why would I get rid of the leather? leathers nice I've done some research and a few did come stock with the leather, so maybe I'm just getting lucky.
