Default 96 civic hatch w/H22 swap. new to honda, wondering the value

as stated in the topic, im new to the honda stuff. several of my friends are into the scene and are relatively knowledgeable (one actually works in a garage with his dad). but sometimes its hard to get the proper information your looking for. at any rate, here are the details:

The car itself is a 96 with an H22 swap. I know its a hatch and is the one with the truck bed style rear, heard that that was a hard to come by thing. The motor has around 100k and the chasis has around 200k. nothing has really been beefed up and the car is in relatively good shape. I drove it around for half a day and it seemed to be a monster.

Here are the questions:
-the owner that was trying to sell drove it to show me what it did. he hit the rev limiter and it seemed to throw a CEL. is this normal?
-what type of aftermarket options do i have to maybe squeeze some more ponies out? I.E. headers back, fuel managment, internals, blah blah blah
-the price is around 4k. is this a fair price?

any and all info is priceless and i thank anyone who take s the time to read and help. THANK YOU!!

when the cel came on did it go off? You are in need of some honda studying. i would say that is an ok price i would go with 3g's give or take a little just because of the milage.

more than likely the cel is a shift light that is set in it because of tuneing(tells you when to shift). if it doesnt go off then idk what it is.

the hatch is actually split in half. the bottom half folds out like the bottom half of a truck bed and the glass folds up. at any rate...more info?
