Default 1989 LX Sedan Driverside axle prob.

I took out the old busted axle, and ran down to autozone. i bought the driver side axle part number 7039. So everything seems good. I test the outer shaft by plugging it directly into the hub... Perfect fit... Nice! Now to install it. I pop it into the tranny and tap it into the hole. Nothing the damn thing will not go in... What could be the issue i tried for 30 mins... it's late i need sleep. someone, anyone please help.
thanks -dem0nk1d "i've done axle installs many times."

most likely you got the wrong axle. the axle inner spline count changed for 88-89 and 90-91 also the spline count varies between trim also.

the out side is a 26 spline fits perfect, the inner spline just doesn't go into the tranny. i beat the other end of the axle a few good times... it will just not seat. the passangerside went in just fine. Any ideas... it's a LX not a std.
so the lx by default is the same as the DX, and SI/EX

take off the snap ring and see if it fits. I once got some axles from autozone and the damn snap rings were so big they wouldn't compress enough to let the axle go into the tranny. If that is the case just try using the snap ring off your old axle if you still have it. But just do a test fit w/o the snap ring, I don't recommend driving the car w/o that ring.

And ditto what the last two guys said, first guy is a retard, all USDM 88-91 have the same inboard spline count and size.

i checked out the axle on the work bench this morning before i left to work. it looks like the end that goes into the tranny is a little boogered up. When i get home I will try to clean the grooves of the axle. I will also try to get the snap ring off.
Thanks a bunch for the ideas..

Did some research by part number from honda and this is what i found...

89 Sedan Lx
Right Axle - 86477 or 86478
Left Axle - 86482

90 Hatchback Dx
same as above.

So it must be the snap ring. I will investigate more when i get home. This just pisses me off when usually it takes about 10 mins an axle.

... ya you have to have that snap ring , its what keeps the axle in the tranny. iv bought a new axle before and the end that goes into the tranny had a little bend at the end causing the snap ring to not be able to sit flush where the bend was so it wouldnt go into my tranny. it happens , i took it back and got a new one free of charge. i suggest to just take it back like you said your doing. dont try and fix it or els they may not take it back.
