help!!!!!!! distributor housing???????????
so my cars been runing pretty much like **** lately and guzling gas. so i changed up the fuel filter. and didnt really notice a difference. and lately ive been hearing the pistons knock. so i checked the spark plugs and ther was signs of bad ignition timing. so i look at the distributor and the rotors is broken. the screw that holds it into place is stripped and off. so i head to autozone and get a new distrubutor cap and rotor. 33.45 and i install it. pretty simple. but i start the car again and still hear the clicking, grinding type sound but at the housing of the distributor. so my question is. how hard will it be to install a new one. and about how much would it cost. but most importantly will i be able to keep drivin my car for now untill i fix it. because i need to work tomorow. any suggestions will be greatly apreciated.
see i knew i was missin somthin, so how u time it? ive never done this before. but i was also refering to the metal housing connected to the block

The metal housing is the distributor you speak of, and the previous poster told you how to remove it, 3 bolts. Sounds like the bearing is shot in your distributor, which causes play in the shaft that the rotor mounts on. You need a timing light to time the ignition and you also have electrical connectors you need to unclip. And if your new distributor housing doesn't have a coil or ignitor, you will need to swap those over as well. I am positive a simple search would have all this info.
