Default Help with my 2000 DX

So I got this Dx and it wasn't running. When I get home I put a b16 ecu in it and the car is redlineing at 4k rpm... so I put a 2000 EX Ecu in it and it redlines normal but around 2-3k rpm it is like a 2 step type effect...i can rev past it.. just when i am in low rpms it sounds like i am 2 stepping... can this just be that I NEED a dx ecu for the car? or is there something more wrong with the motor? I wanna know if it can be a ecu problem so i will find a dx ecu or if it cant be caused by the ecu i will look into the motor and figure it out. Thanks

You have a vtec ecu in a non-vtec car. That could be part of your problem.\

When you bought the car did the previous owner tell you why it wasn't running? Or that it just needed an ecu?

when i got it, it had a automatic ecu (the car used to be automatic.. it has 4 plugs on the ecu harness... i only use 3 in the vtec ecu's) and with the auto ecu it redlined at 4k too... i just wanna kno if the problem could be in the ecu? or is it in the motor? what does it sound like to you guys?

I would start with the right ecu first and start checking for CEL's.

there is no cel... but i am pretty sure the bulb is out or busted... i am hoping it is just a ecu swap and the problem will go away... i dont have till to mess with it till this weekend... so if it CAN be just the ecu I would rather spend time now looking for a ecu ... but if a ecu CANT cause the problem I am not gonna worry about it and just plan to figure out whats going on

it's VERY likely the previous owner removed the bulb considering the auto/manual swap and the condition of the car when you bought it.

Check the codes it's throwing from the service connector w/ a scanner from autozone or something - it's free.

The previous owner probably pulled the bulb and it's having an issue that's tossing it into limp mode.

well i cant drive the car to autozone in the condition it is in.... so this morning i was thinking and thought maybe it was in the distributor.... so i replace the ICM and Coil with a working set and it is still doing the same thing.... I am prolly gonna try and pull the cluster out and see whats up with the bulbs.... anyone ever heard of a ECU causing this problem?

like i said above the Ignition control module and coil were changed with new ones and still nothing.... so instead of pulling the cluster out i went and got a scanner... lets see what it says
