A good way to strip a whole car down to bare metal is by media blasting. Call around or buy a blaster. Sanding will take much longer. Nobody here knows your level of skill, technique and experience, so without that info its pointless to even guess.

Media blasting is definately the way to go for stripping a car to bare metal, however buying a media blaster may be out of your price range...I would suggest calling around to see if a local shop has one. I wouldn't think that your average body shop/collision center would have a media blaster though, so I would ask custom paint shops.

If all else fails, get to sanding

Well its not a good idea to attempt a restoration without experience, completely on your own. I advise you to befriend someone with resto knowledge to help you and teach you along the way. Thats if you want a good, quality end result.

Well, first off what is your reason for going to bare metal? Alot of people think they have to sand to bare metal but it is nonsense (most the time). Depending on why you going to baremetal you can just use a grinder, or a DA with 80 grit. HAHA good luck if you doing it by hand.

Buy a pack of razor blades I actually stripped part of a car like that, then went over it with 150 grit, believe it or not it didn't take too long lol.
