Clutch coil... What should I do?
A/C is problematic.
Cycles cool air for a few minutes / warm air for a few minutes. Rinse and repeat.
I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX - 6 cyl with 176,000 miles.
I took it to Honda. They replaced the expansion valve. The problem is still there. The original expansion valve was not the problem. Now I'm out $600. Took it back to Honda, they said, well... we can replace the clutch, compressor, drier, etc... They will waive the labor since I paid it already for the part that didn't need replacing. My additional cost, $1000. They admitted that they weren't sure if this would fix it. I said, goodbye.
Took it to someone who specializes in A/C's and they said that everything is working except for the clutch coil.
Two recommendations:
$350 = Coil plus labor – Replacing the clutch coil. Discharge the refrigerant. Take the compressor out. Replace the coil. Put the compressor back. Recharge the whole thing. Not guaranteed.
$750 = Discharge the refrigerant. Take the compressor and the clutch assembly off. Replace the compressor, clutch, wires, etc. Yes... this will fix it.
What would you recommend?

Also - Between the two...
The $350 option would fix the A/C problem.
The $750 option would fix the A/C problem AND give us a brand new compressor.
This is our only vehicle. It has 176,000 miles on it and I need to keep it running at least another year and a half (until I can pay off my credit card.)
Considering the mileage, should I go ahead and replace the compressor?????
