Default Eradic Tach!1!1!!!

I have a 90 CRX w/ b16a swap. The factory tach had been acting crazy. I assumed that the tach had just gone bad, so I purchased a new Auto Meter tach (wanted one anyway). I plugged it into the coil (not the factory tach wire). Now, the Auto Meter tach acts even crazier than the factory tach. At idle, the tach will fluctuate between 1 and 8 grand! It was so annoying, that i just unhooked it. Anyone have a clue of what the root of the problem could be? Coil or distributor issue maybe???

Thanks

Check your coil but I think it might be the distributor. My bro had a similar problem and it was the dizzy.

My tach started to do that after a little while being pinned by the b16.

people always tell me it means my ignitor is going bad, but it worked fine for me daily.

Sounds just like when my ignitor went out. Its inside the dizzy.

Get one from autozone. Its the cheapest place to get it, and it comes with a little thing of thermal paste. Plus it comes with a lifetime warranty.

also it could be one of the lamest reasons, but if your distirbutor bolts are not tight that will cause it to shake and idle funny.
