Default Connecting Ipod to Pioneer headunit

Well, I've been using a FM transmitter to play my Ipod through my Pioneer headunit (not sure on the model number...I bought it a couple years ago), but the wires on the FM transmitter somehow managed to get bent out of shape and now only work when the wires are bent at a certain angle (ghetto, I know).

Anyways, I'm looking to spend as little as possible on this (Just bought a HD TV).

Here's what I've found...the one that I found runs through the Multi-CD plug in on the back of the headunit, and I'm pretty sure my headunit has the Multi-CD option, but I've spent that past 30 minutes playing with it and can't seem to find it.

Help...please

Honestly, I have no idea.

I bought it a few years ago and lost the paperwork on it.

Is there any way to find out just by looking at the headunit itself?

yes it should say deh-6000000mp or something
and yes that cord will work
you must turn on your AUX i believe pressing source for 5secs or something i forgot what exactly to do or else maybe continue to click source or menu and it will bring up the menu to add aux.

After that hook up the ipbus which is the other end of that cable to the back of your headunit and then the other end to ipod. Switch source to aux and ipod should play.

Mine is hooked exactly like that except mine is ipbus to a rca red white instead of 3.5mm

It should say on the headunit itself. It's little type and it will satrt with "Deh-*****"

OR, just take out the headunit and look for the plug. It is blue. Here is what it looks like on two differant pioneer headunits:

A Deh-p8600mp: (It is resesed in the Headunit itself)

And a Deh-p960Mp: (It is connected to the headunit by a cord)

If you have either of these plugs (they are the same - just differant variations of the same plug) then the ipod will work.

*As long as you don't allready have something hooked up to it - like a Multi-CD changer. If you DO allready have something hooked up, then you need this unit: The pioneer CD-IB100II
http://www.pioneerelectronics.....html

This will allow you to pass threw so you can have both the CD changer and the ipod. (Just make sure your Headunit is compatable - There is a list of compatable units on the site)

Hope this helps

It does have the blue/purple plug in on the back and I remember seeing "AUX" while I was playing around with it trying to figure out if it would work or not.

Thanks alot guys

On those cords, do you control the Ipod through the Ipod itself or the headunit?

ON the cords, you control the ipod through the ipod itself. I'd recomend getting the CD-IB100II that I described above.

The reasons are that
#1 - <U>If</U> your radio is compatable, then you control the songs ON the headunit.

A list of compatable Headuntits are:

[From http://www.pioneerelectronics.....html ]

Compatibility
For use with Pioneer “iPod® Adapter Ready” Headunits and AV Receivers. Compatible models include:

<U>Full Touch-Panel Control models:</U> AVIC-Z1, AVIC-N3, AVH-P7800DVD, AVH-P6800DVD, AVH-P5700DVD
<U>Full Rotary Commander Control models:</U> DEH-P9800BT, DEH-P980BT, DEH-P880PRS, DEH-P7800MP, DEH-P780MP, DEH-P6800MP, DEH-P680MP

The following models can control the CD-IB100II through "External Unit Control", with some limitations in operation and display. Please consult the owners manual for more details.

“External Unit” Compatibility with many additional Pioneer Headunit and AV Receiver models.
Compatible with iPod models featuring Dock Connector

#2 - The CD-IB100II charges the ipod while it's pluged in. (I'm 99% sure the cord you want dosent charge the ipod-which will only give u a few hours of songs before it dies...)

#3 - The CD-IB100II only costs $50, while the cord can cost $30 [ http://www.pioneerelectronics.....html ] Well worth the extra $20 in my opinion...

Only downside is the install is more "permanent", and you need to find a spot for the box unit itself - like the glovebox or behind the console, but its still very small...

you can find the cord for cheap on ebay. But he is right it is better to get the unit for the fact that you can control it and charge. I use mine to output video so i need that but i will eventually get the unit

I'd rather control it through the ipod itself...most of my driving is highway (back and forth to school) and it's just more convenient to do it through the ipod so I don't have to reach for the headunit, etc. etc.

Can somebody link me to one that connects it to the headunit...but you still control it through the ipod itself?

I'm not 100% on if I'd need to charge it in the car...my drive for school is 1 hour round trip, and then to work and back home...and I just plug the ipod up to my computer and let it charge from there.
