What's that little part by the gear shift?
You know that little 1/2 inch rectangular oval thingy that is on the right side of the gear shift on automatics in 2007 Civic? What is the part for? Mine seems to be missing. It looks like a hole that goes into the shift area below??? Does anyone know what the part is called or for? I want to get it replaced :-) Thanks!
That would be your shift-interlock.
Any key can be pressed down into that hole to release the shifter from its locked (P) position.
The small cover should have been installed in your car during the PDI at the dealer.
If it is missing you can pick it up at any Honda Dealer for probably about $2.

I would certainly hope so.
They should be able to just get one out of a car on the lot, and then order one to replace it for that car(at least thats what we do at my dealership).
If they give you a hard time just suggest that to them.

Went to the dealer and they said they would get the part for me so I have to go back next week. Thanks for telling me what it was called. I would have looked like a dork without the proper name of the part.
Thank you so much for your help!
