I've been working on a 98 LS with a few bent valves, then I came across this head for a low price.

Does it look okay?

cant really tell just by looking at it. you need to check it for cracks and warp.

someone didn't like to change their oil. there's a layer of coked oil on everything. i'd try to find a better one.

take it to a machine shop and have them look it over and make sure its not warped, it's worth the small fee .

looks like someone never changed their oil and looks like a high mileage head could be wrong?

looks not taken care off, try another one or repair your head with new valve, spring, seals, and a valve job and it will be like or better than new again.

Whenever I took the valvecover off of my old LS, it looked ALOT cleaner than those heads. But now its p72 > p75.

it looks ok. it's fine. From the looks of it, possibly high milage/or not well taken care of head. i would still change out the stem seals and get the head resurfaced. it should be done before u put it on anyway. so its's all good . i have a ls head in the garage that looks just like it. 256k miles on it so i wouldn't be surprised to see it like that. and i also just redid seals and resurface another head. this is want u want :

there you go. hope this helps

I have 304K miles on my RS, and the head looks much cleaner than the one you are looking at. Castrol GTX every 4-5K miles FTW! I agree with taking either your stock head or that head to the machine shop and let them clean, pressure test, check for warpage, and replace the valve seals. You will be suprized at how cheap they will do all that for.

It looks okay, but it's hard to judge the condition of a head through pix alone. Did it come off of a running car? I would take it to a machine shop and have them check it out.
