technical off set qns, please help
from what i have searched and the response from you guys a
16x7 rim with an offset of +30 should rub on a Type R with stock suspension and right height correct?
on a full lock whether it is left or right, on stock suspension, rims and stock tyre size, on the narrows point i can fight one index finger between the tyre and the inner guard.
But with stock suspension and a rim with 16x7 and off set of +30 and tyre of 205/50/16 on the narrowest section i can fit 2 fingers between the tyre and the guard...how is this possible?
i have measured the rim size and offset in case the stickers are incorrect, but they are correct.
my next qns is, would steering response be worst since the rims stick out 20mm more on either side? traction would be better correct.
The reason i ask, is because i found some 2nd ssr rims at and good price and i am wondering what the down sides are of a +30 offset instead of a +42.
also the rims are in line with the car body, with a bit of camber they should be legal and road worthy...i hope...
your opinions are appreciated

you have a good grasp of offset.
+30 will be 20mm pushed outwards from the hub compared to stock wheels which are +50. This will give you a wider track. I have no problem recommending +30 on a 7" wide wheel.

thanks
i was just very worried since every searched topic i found, everyone was suggesting that it would rub.
i was thinking if i do not rub on a stock rim/tyre and suspension why would i rub on the 16x7 +30 offset if it fact it had a large clearance. Just need some confirmation.
would it not be suggested to file the hug of the rim down 5mm so the offset would now be +35 and not +30
the ssr type c rims were just to good to miss out on. only thing is that it is gold colour and i would want to respray it bronze.
just waiting on suspension before i put these rims on, i wonder how much of a difference light rims make? these are 12lbs rims
thanks again

anyone else?
if i file the hug of the rim (which is probably not reconmended) down by 5mm it would make the offset +35 which in theory should fit since +42 is perfect...but what i do not understand is having the perfect offset with a wider rim...wouldn't be prone to rubbing even more...? or are is the rim design a bit more complicated than that?

well i'll do the quick math for you:
15x6 +50 is the oem usdm itr wheel
16x7 +30 is your intended setup?
This is exactly 25.4mm wider than the oem setup. but you are only adding 1/2 of that to the outer side as well as to the inner side of the wheel. so that's 12.7mm added to the inside of the wheel as well as outer. So subtract 12.7 from 50 and what do you get? That would be an ideal +37 offset to retain the same inner wheel clearance.
Well you are only 7mm off at a +30 offset. How big is 7mm? roughly 36/100th of an inch, or a tiny bit more than 1/3 of an inch - which isn't enough to get worried about.
At this point, you should be more concerned with tire size. And personally, I wouldn't shave the inner hub - I know it's an old road racing trick, but i just don't trust anyone to machine them perfectly so they don't wobble and of course this will devalue the wheels if you ever decide you want to sell them.
