Default how to check timing on a d series?

i am just curious how to check the degrees of timing on a sohc zc with a timing light because i dont see where you could or can you at all? I know it may be a stupid question but i need to know so i figured i would throw it out there.

Another question is which direction of rotation of the dizzy advances and retards the timing?

to check the timing theres 3 little notches on your crank pulley closest to the timing belt cover and theres a little pointer that sticks off the belt cover you want that pointer right around the center of the 3 lines....and for the dsitributor im pretty sure forward advances and backwards retards dont quote me on that i didnt have to mess with my distributor when i replaced my head and timing belt i didnt see that you said zc...as long as its sohc it should be the same as any other single cam honda motor

if your motor is the same there will a set of notches that look like this ||| | the set of 3 when you put a light on it you want the pointer on the belt cover to be almost if not dead on with the center one the 1 notch by its self is the one you need then your setting the #1 piston to tdc by hand thats how i was told and and i never timed a honda and i got it pt together and it fired right up
