Default startup oil pressure for fresh motor

edit-please scroll down

Hey-
I am finishing a build and its time to start the motor... I have never had an oil pressure gauge so I am not familiar with the pressures on startup/idle

I cranked the motor over for 10s or so and noticed the pressure increase to ~30psi but then drop as soon as I stopped cranking.

What should I look for/avoid when starting a fresh motor with regards to the oil pressure? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated

Thanks!!

Seb

Awesome, thanks for the advice.

On another, related note.... I have 3 year old gas in the tank

I checked for rust by peeking in, I take it I should probably drain it all and replace it with fresh gas?

I just fired up my fresh motor last week or so and again today. I got mid to low 70's once started. Sounds good to me.

Drain that gas and refill with new gas before you run the motor

Is the drain bolt on the tank sufficient for getting all of the old gas out, or would I need to siphon it somehow?

Drain it with the bolt, and throw a gallon or two of fresh gas in there, then drain it again. Then fill it.

May seem wasteful, but it'll get out the old **** and dilute whatever's left so it won't matter.

Eh, wasteful or not I would rather be safe

Thanks a lot for the advice... if you know of any other tips for the first start up, I would love to hear them. This is only the second fresh motor I have started, with the first not even being my own car

Thanks!!!

finally started the motor!

The oil pressure was ~50 at idle - is this indicative of a leak somewhere? Don't know if this factors into things, but I have two -12AN coming off the VC and two more -12AN coming off the back of the block to a catch can.
