b18 timing question
I have a ek with a jdm b18 swap and its making a weird pinging sound when I put it in gear and take off. It started two weeks ago as a small sound but grew into a louder sound this morning. Also it has no power what so ever the higher the rpm, it does'nt smoke does'nt make no noise in neutral, no check engine light, no over heating. My buddy messed around with timing three weeks ago and took it off also he used some snap-on timing gun that adjusts the timing without having to move the distributor. Can this be my problem? One more thing the regulator shows 38lbs on idle and accleration and the spark plugs are black, black.

there's no way he did that. you have to move the distributor to change base timing.

No bulshit the timing gun connects to the spark plug wire and on the gun its one of those digital ***** he press some buttons and the cranked moved. I 'm about to take it to my buddy's garage to check it out.
I just came back from my buddy's shop and found out it jumped like 4 teeth. I'm going to purchase a belt and water pump is usdm itr the same as jdm itr. Also i'm running a b16 distributor will that affect the timing?
If you're going that far, you might as well replace the tensioner too.
US ITR stuff should be fine.
I'm reasonably sure the distributor doesn't have any idea what engine it is installed on.

I took the top timing belt cover and the belt looks good, it makes a clicking sound near the damper. The mechanic said there's a chance it could be the crank and some other ****.

well i got my car fixed! both cams jumped three teeth. The guy i brought the motor said he installed a new timing belt and water pump which he did but he didn't set timing right, now its good and driving way better.
