96 Civic safe to turbo?
Ok so ive got a 96 civic ex with and original d16y8 w/ 123,XXX miles on it the motors pretty clean and has been treated well... Do you think it is safe to turbo this? I dont have any cash to put into another motor or alot of repair bills what do ya think?
you should be alright as long as you run only 6 or 7 psi. A d series motor isnt the best choise for a turbo. you could probably find a b18 non vtec for pretty cheap and build a cheap turbo kit and have a decent amount of power- or maybe an H23.

listen to him, he is right you have no idea where that car has been every single day of its life. but if everything checks out alright then yea it is fine.

Compression test. Leakdown test.
Milage has nothing to do with it. There are guys on d-series.org with 220whp and 200k+ miles on their cars.

so many lies/ doesnt know what he is talking about
jeff evans stock z6(d16) sees boost spikes which yeilds number 400+whp completely stock motor. i d series is fine for turbo charging, i pieced my kit together for $1800 and @ 11psi im making 252/215, find me a swap for that price that will make those numbers?
and an h23, horrible choice for boost, since they have fiberglass reinforced sleeves.
dont just write what you've heard
