Default Changing MTF

Hi guys, i have a '99 lx f23a1 2dr.

I've recently been feeling a very slight grinding when im shifting gears and have a very reluctant shifter sometimes which i've read could be due to the fork being a bit lose or a variety of problems, but thats not my question. I'm thinking that changing my MTF will help out with the problems a bit hopefully and is not very hard to do so i might as well do it. The problem is that i have about 100,000 miles on the car and i dont believe its ever been changed before. A few people have told me changing the MTF will do harm to my transmission, something about there being a lot of build up in there by now and if i change the fuild all the gunk will be disturbed and do more harm than good or that some of the junk in there has found a place and is "holding some things together". I was wondering if this is true and should i go ahead with the change?

Default Re: Changing MTF (5spdcoupe)

if you suspect wear, replace your MTF with GM syncromesh gear oil, and if its really bad, add some lucas engine treatment.

When you drain the oil, inspect the old fluid for brass shaving. If you see any, then your syncros are toast, and its time for a rebuild.

Heres a pic of where to drain and fill the fluid just in case you dont already know.
