Default Upgraded, yet i'm now slower! Turbo Size in question. lil help here guys.

ok i'll try & make this short. basicly i upgraded my plumbing and turbo manifold over winter for improved flow, only i got slower instead of faster from the efficency change.

Engine being used is a forged 81.5mm bore b18a, stock refreshed head.

Old setup included:
Drag mani
90 degree turns (not bends, in my charge pipes)
Garrett t3/t4 .60/.63

New setup:
Top Mount manifold (nice flowing, nice wastegate placment)
Mandrel bent charge pipes (way better flowing)
Garrett t3/t4 .60/.63 (same turbo, still in like new condition)

Problem is this, last year i went 12.8@108 without any problems at 12psi. I just went out to the track last night & had a really hard time swallowing the fact that i couldn't get back into the 12's with my new improved flow. The only thing that i can come up with is that there might be an issue spooling this turbo with the longer wider runners on this new manifold. Possibly causing this thing to spool much slower and there for not having as much of a usable powerband to move me down the track as fast. I'm just guessing at that theroy..

any input would be helpful, the car is running great, no motor problems.. it's just not performing the way that i thought it would. (concidering testing out a .48/.57)

retune?

ok old drag mani vs top mount, your spool characteristics are now different, you need fuel and timing in places you didnt before, and need to take it out of places that now dont need it. i am no tuner, but you see what i am saying?

I've got CromePro / Ostrich / PLX Wideband / & EGT in the car. durring the 8 passes that i made, i was a little rich on the 3000-4000 rpm range (i fixed that), but other than that, the map was right on.

if i an correct, ign timing has alot to do with spool characteristics.

I agree, every time that you change something as major as a new manifold a retune is in order.

you cant tune a car over the internet. get it on a dyno if you can. this will show you how effective your changes are.

edit: also what are you trapping now on the new setup?

sarcasm

best run last night was was 13.1@106 but most of my runs were mid 13's.

i didn't run the 13.1 until the sun started to go down.. then they closed the track coz they didn't wanna play the electric bill to turn the lights on!

so basicly i'm gonna have to get on the dyno and add timing until it stops making power to try & get it to spool sooner?

same ones, BFG Drag Radials. I put them away for winter, and put them back on when i got to the track. They are also in great shape.

I'm really thinking it's a spooling issue, like my power band area isn't in my rpm range area as much as it should be.

isnt the drag manifold a log style?

They spool up faster, dont they?

maybe this can be part of the cause.

Take it to the dyno, and turn up the boost a litlte bit.

I think i'm just gonna give it some more timming and raise up the egt's in the laggy area, coz if i'm thinking right, that would bring the spool to me faster due to the expansion of hotter gases flowing through the manifold?
