Default screaching sound

Ok i bought a 1992 civic hatchback. The car was a non running car. The guy said he was going down the road and the oil light came on and it just died right there. So he had it towed back to his house where i bought it for 50 bucks. When i try to turn it over it just makes a screching noise. Anyone know what happened to it?

does it try to turn over? if not maybe the motor is seized and your hearing the starter spin on the flywheel.

x2, likely your starter trying to do it's job on something that's already FUBAR'd.

You got a hell of a deal on it. if you've got 'some' money, swap it.

it could be a spun baring but not likley if it died on him if it was a spun baring he would have just heard a knocking sound and then if he kept driving it would most likley throw a rod it sounds like a seized motor to me

yea my civic has a cracked piston ring right now. my oil light wont come one even being 2 quarts low unless i make a hard turn. if the light turned on while driving my guess is there was almost no oil at all. the motor is more than likly done for. but good deal for 50 bucks.
