hey guys hows it going, i have a 1992 civic, i no this the ef forum but i had a question. i want a 2 step in my car but the speed senser is busted and i was told u need a speed senser to have a 2 step. but my question is how do u have a 2 step when u have a speed cable? thank you.

 

You either need a standalone 2-step unit like an MSD box, or a chipped ECU with a program that allows a 2-step rev limiter. (Depending on the program, they may or may not be speed-dictated.)

 

alright i know this might be a little off topic but what is two step ?

 

Reguardless of the 2step,,,if you have a broken part on the car and know what it is why don't you fix it?

But yeah tippyman is right.

2 step is a 2 stage rev limter for launching the car.....For example on my car its 5000 1st step,,,8000 2nd step....5000 is from 0-10 mph,,then 8000 is from 10 mph +........

are you wondering how a 2 step would work, given a cable vss trans?

in this case, the only difference is the location of the electronic sensor. obd1, your car, has an electronic vss mounted to the transmission itself, while obd0 cars have the electronic vss in the dash, which is driven by the cable that you are talking about. so really, both sensors are electric, just one is mounted on the trans (obd1) and the other is mounted in the dash and driven by a cable from the trans (obd0).

in both cases, you can have a 2 step, a.k.a launch control, and you need the vss because as mr. speaker said, the ecu has to detect what speed you are at to know which rev limiter to use. both obd0 turboedit and obd1 crome use the vss as part of the 2 step. in my case, my 2 step is set to 8mph, so my rev limit is 4k under 8mph and 7200rpm after 8mph.

the really crappy thing is that if your vss goes out with a 2 step, you can only go to 4k rpm (or whatever your launch rpm is set to) before you fuel cut.

i would recommend that if you want a 2-step, you use a MSD 6AL ignition with the MSD 2-step - the MSD rev limiter cuts the ignition by randomly dropping spark to cylinders where the chipped ECU with 2 step rev limit cuts the fuel to all cylinders - cutting the fuel, especially at higher rpm is not a good idea as the engine is going to go lean - cut the ignition and it will go rich

 

is the msd 6al box deff then the msd 6a box????
my box came with a shofttouch rev box but it's at 7000...
i still don't know where to hook up a few wires for the 6a box

awh thats sucks how do you know if the a6 box is even working??? welll your car still start?
cuz i have that 6a box and the blasterSS coil
i don't know if the 6a is on or not i was gonna try to take the pos off the box and see if the car still runs.....

i just wunt to make sure it works my boy gave the 6a box to me cuz he went and got the 6al box
