Default help a noob out on his first engine build

hey guys, im getting ready to send my block out to the machine shop, but i have a few questions first, i have a d16y7 that i plan to boost, im on an extreme budget, but i won't cheap out in an area that needs money, i only want around 200 hp, and in the future a max of 300hp, the cylinder walls are messed up, so i want to buy oversized pistons, 75.5mm, when i boost will the walls fall because they are too thin?, should i get a block guard, sleeves? what pistons should i use, what makes vitaras so good, will oem oversized support my needs? its cheaper, will scat rods/tuner toys/eagles rods be compatible with either of those pistons? i have heard sometimes where the wrist pistons goes into it needs bored, but thanks i appreciate all the help

Tune it right and the sleeves will be fine. The best defence is to sleeve it, but if you get the tuning right you dont have to. Stay away from block guards.

so you say don't even use a block guard? and what do you think about piston choices? both oversized, but oem or vitara?

Get Vitaras in oversize and *then* take the block to the machine shop, to get it bored. From what I understand vitaras don't fit very snugly, so it might be a good idea to punch the block out to whatever the vitaras need not just blindly go 0.5 over.

no i understand that, my machinist has the block and is taking it apart and waiting for my pistons till he bores, but what i need to know right now is should i get oem oversized or vitara oversized? i only want a max of 300 hp, i want this to be a road racing car, not a highway monster

You're on crack if you think the OEM ringlands would take 300 hp for any prolonged period of time. The vitaras have a much thicker top ringland.

http://www.zealautowerks.com/dseries.html says that you're gonna have 8:1 imho that's kinda low for your goals, and could make your fuel economy and off boost performance not that good. But then Vitaras can be had for $150 vs. $400+ for CPs. I say expletive it and just run the Vitaras and compensate with a turbo that will get you to your goal, but just. Like still not overboosted and out of efficiency but the smallest you can run at that power level.

Iunno that link could be wrong. T25 is kinda smallish so only run it if you don't have to rebuild it first.

75.5mm Vitaras and Eagle Rods, they connect together no problem. I'm not sure if TT is selling their rods right now, I know for quite some time they were remanufacturing the rods. Don't know if the Scat will be plug and play off hand, I went with the Eagles.

Have the block bored correctly. Stock sleeves will be more than enough for your power with a good tune. Some blockguards have the tendency to create hot spots on the sleeve and cause detonation or weaken the sleeves (or both). As far as I'm concerned for that kind of power they're a waste of money, I'm going for 400whp and I have stock sleeves and open coolant passages.

I love my Vitara's, they take a hell of a beating.

Block guards aren't the greatest because of the different expansion rates of the guard itself, the block, and the sleeves. Think about one expanding more than the other. Puts stress on parts that already see more than enough stress as it is.

Don't expletive with the combustion chamber, unless you know what you're doing.
