how big of a fuse will in need for a MA AUDIO HK401
i have a real 4gage line(stinger cable) i am going to use a anl fuse holder but need to know how big of a fuse to use. i have a 500 watt 2channel for my mids and highs but that amp is no problem. but the MA AUDIO HK401 is 1800rms at .5 ohm.
thanks justin

oops my bad...im too tired...a standard fuse for that gauge should work fine...i dont know the exact numbers but you can look at other kits and find out...
Really? The chart looks pretty good to me...
If you look at the chart, and find the "1800 watt" column, you'll see that there isn't any green for 4 gauge past 5-7'...
That would tell me that if I want my amp in my trunk, then I would need a thicker wire...
And also, please refer to the paragraph about alternator size...

thanks justin</TD></TR></TABLE> The current capacity of 4ga cable is 150A, so install a 150A ANL fuse on the line within 18" of the batt.
Now as B18C_EJ8 mentions if you are running 1800W RMS, the 4ga is not going to be big enough unless you are installing the amp in the glove box, but then the question is what are you driving with the MA Audio amp, and are you going to load it down to .5 ohms?

Your amp makes 650W RMS into a 2 ohm load, that means that it is not enough power to drive even one Pioneer SPL sub, if I remember right Pioneer SPL subs start at 750W continuous, [older 10"] so I would be looking at running the amp with a .5 ohm load, run the 4ga cable, to a 2nd batt in the rear, [close to amp] use a 300A fuses, replace the alt. with a HO one, beef up the batt. to chassis and chassis to motor grounds, and replace the alt. to under hood fuse box charge line with a 4ga and connect it to the batt, instead.
Or just replace the subs with some 300W DVC 2 ohms.
