Has anyone had problems with the cup holders in their DC teg not wanting to stay in?
Mine no longer clicks in when you push on it, just springs back out. Has anyone had to repair this before/knows how to repair it?
Thanks in advance.

It appears that the cup holder is integrated into the console.
Does is come apart? Removed the console and saw the spring mechanism for the cup holder tray, but could not pinpoint the catch/release mechanism.

just remove the ashtray and youll see three screws way in the back. you have to take that out so you can get to the cupholder. the cupholder uses a leaf spring on the bottom to make it spring out. usually the clip where it hooks to make it stay close is broken. i just took the spring out so my cupholder doesn't hang out. now i just pull it out.

Yeah, you've got to remove the console to get at the cup holder, unfortunately.
It's straigtforward. if you can use a computer, you can do it.

Mine does this on a regular basis (maybe once a year or so). What happens is the pin that moves against the spring inside gets pushed in or pulled out slightly (can't remember which way exactly), but basically it won't engage the spring anymore. When it happens on mine I just take it apart, and adjust the pin as needed to make it engage again, and it works good as new... until it happens again
I've had to do it several times since I've owned my car, but it certainly doesn't warrant replacing the parts altogether. It's a simple, no cost fix.
I also usually clean up any gunk off the sliding parts (dirt, junk from drinks, etc.) while I have the parts off.
*edit* actually I think the pin moves through some kind of plastic cam piece, which is what makes the cupholder operate like a retractable ball-point pin (the push in to lock, and push in again to spring out kind of operation). There's like a little track on the white cam piece that the pin moves through, and sometimes the pin will get pushed in so that doesn't engage the track anymore. Just take it apart and when you look at it, it should be obvious how to fix it.

I dont mean to bump a very old thread. I was having this same issue for a very long time. I cleaned the assembly, took it all apart, and inspected the springs and white plastic cam that is used as a "catch" for a small metal pin. I looked at everything and still, the cup holder would fail to "catch" or stay closed. After a few days of screwing around with it, trying several things. I decided to see if the "pin" was the issue. First question was, " was it too short?" So I pried the pin out and only stuck it back in a little less then original. This did not fix it. So I asked myself , " Maybe its tooo long?".. YUP, thats what the issue was. The pin was sticking slightly farther out of its place prior to me even touching it. All I did was tap the pin back in as far as it could go and BOOOOM.. done. stays closed.. I really really hope people see this, as Im sure plenty of people have this problem!!
