1. look everywhere: oil pan, head gasket area, camshaft seal, oil filter area, rear main seal, front main seal, etc...
2. do a leakdown test and compression test. that will tell you if you're leaking at all and where.

P.S. did you run the engine prior to changing the oil? if so some of it is still in the cylinder head and hasn't drained back down just yet.

when u go into vtec u should b able to smell the burn. you can look around for leaks and such. check ur radiator reservoir for oil, that's a sign of a blown headgasket. also, i've heard something about not screwing on the filter right or something, can cause a pretty easy oil loss. u can also pull ur spark plugs, if one is drenched in oil then that's probably a bad piston ring. if one just has a little oil on it, then u could b leaking from the spark plug tube seal (part of the valve cover gasket set.) and if all else fails... take it to someone.

well i dont have V-tec. there is no oil in the anti-freeze resvoir. i changed the oil myself this time so its definately on there correctly. i recently had a new head installed after my timing belt snapped and it could be the valve cover gasket, but wouldnt there be a trail of oil somewhere that i could see? if there would be, there isnt. spark plugs have already been pulled and there is no oil in sight. the oil DID, however, have a tint of a gas smell to it. im not sure what that means though. and how do i do a compression test, i;ve never done one. do i need to bring it somewhere for that?

if youve lost that much oil , you would have either noticed the blue smoke behind you by now , or you would be able to see oil somewheres on/under your engine. start checking it man , jesus , lol.

I dont think that losing 2.5 quarts of oil or so in an oil change interval would be enough that the car would smoke?(if it just simply burned it and its not leaking).

over that long of period you will most likely burn that much oil, me personally i run full synthetic and i still change it every 3000 miles... i wont go any later then that, i have too much money into my engine...

i wish i could change it that often, but living in a condo complex where the condo board people are a bunch of ***** and you are "not allowed" to work on cars here, makes it hard to do anything at all to it. so you think its normal to burn 3 quarts of oil over 5000 miles? seems like a lot

yah that does suck, know how you feel with that trust me, but that does seem like quite a bit, over that period of time you will burn some but shouldnt be around 3 quarts, i know i went that long on my old motor before a few times and i only burned maybe 2 at most, it also depends on how much you beat on the motor and how much you take it into higher rpms also, doing that will also cause more oil to be burned
