Default UH OH! is this not enough oil?

I just changed my oil and i noticed whenever i change my oil i get a small amount when i drain it. I'm not leaking any oil. Does this look right?... its out of a b16, how much do you guys normally get when you drain your oil?

How am I supposed to know how big that pan is?

Do you check your oil regularly? It isn't uncommon for Hondas to burn a little oil.

ummmm i think theres atleast to be 2-3 quarts when u drain it....thats wat i usually get with my b18c1...but it is common for b-series motors to burn oil but i dont think that much......might wanna do a compression/leak down test to see if the motor is sealed

You never check the oil level between oil changes?

Heres a better idea check your oil reguarly and at least once right before you change it, if it reads correctly on the dipstick then you dont have to worry.

Well atleast thats what I like to do, there is a lot of performance that can be lost from improper maintenance ie: crappy spark plugs, bad wires and shitty oil.

Yeah...we have no idea how much oil is in that pan...

You have to keep an eye on you oil. I try to check mine every weekend or while I'm getting gas.

Yes, Honda motors tend to burn oil especially with high mileage and run in or near VTEC range.

Search...you are not the first to have an experience like this.

4 quarts should come out and you should check your oil ATLEAST every two weeks, if not more frequently.

4.25 U.S quarts should go in when you change the oil with filter.

I check my oil level weekly, so I never measure what comes out because I always know there's enough anyways.

Thats what I do, I'm just so shocked there wasn't much. A GSR and B16 use the same amount of oil? b16 uses 4.2....wierd

Is the motor/oil warm when you drain the oil? Is the oil cap on the valve cover open? Do you then drain the oil fom filter to the container?

If you're really concerned next time, drain the filter into the container, then fill as many quarts of oil as you can. Does it compare to 4 quarts?

I got the same car/motor as you

For what its worth, with 64k on the clock I checked my oil recently and I havent burned a drop, never have. I know people say hondas burn some, but I for the most part get out what I put in. I change every 3k.

And not to worry you, just an observation. My oil comes out a really light brown color, almost like honey. Your oil is alot darker than mine.

Only honda motor I've come across that 'eats' oil between changes is the H22A (93-95 lude).

I havent seen any other honda motors except the prelude one burn oil either.

IMO if your not getting 4 or close to 4qts out theres a problem.

Sorry but I don't believe that.

I've done shitloads upon shitloads of oil changes and it NEVER comes out a "light brown honey" color whatsoever. not even on brand new cars does it come out that color.

It will be black if you change the oil at 3000 miles.

I've seen plenty of B16A2 engines from the 99-00 burn oil, but not smoke at all.

Hell my B18C5 uses a little bit of oil between oil changes but doesn't smoke one bit.

It's not uncommon to use maybe 1 quart between 3000 mile oil changes.

Actually I have seen it come out a dark brown after 4500 with amsoil and amoil filter.

But I have never seen it any color but black when it is 2500 and up with any other oil.

I doubt the pics taken were of Amsoil, and I'm pretty sure the guy who said his comes out looking like honey uses amsoil either.

I could be wrong, but it's not like amsoil is the most commonly used stuff...
