Question for everyone who is rolling on 15inch Rota Slipstreams
Hi..i was curious what kind of lug nuts are you guyz using to secure your wheels? Did you use your OEM ones..or did you have to buy specific kinds of lug nuts to fit your slipstreams...the reason i am asking is because i heard that the OEM lugnuts are not safe to use on the slipstreams..reason being is that its ok..but not 100% secure....I am of course going to use wheel locks too...but im not going to buy 3 other sets of wheel locks..so I was planning to just use the OEM lug nuts for the rest...any input is very appreciated...Thanks again

you cant use oem lugs or locks.
you need to get tapered or tuner style lug nuts.

DONT USE STOCK LUG NUTS.
Stock lugnuts have an acorn shaped end (the part that touches the rim)
The Slipstreams, and MOST other aftermarket wheels require a tapered or "tuner" style lugnut.
If you use acorns in a tuner style rim, the lug nut only touches the rim on the outer edge of the lugnut seat, or taper. you can get the lugnuts upto torque, but you are placing all of that torque on a small part of the wheel. This will make the wheel deform under load and heat and the lugnuts will loose torque, loosen, fall off and the rest is history.
The tuner lugs will seat all the way into the lugnut hole. The taper of the lugnut will match that of the rim giving you a larger area to disperse this tourque. Lugs stay tourqued, lugs stay on, wheels stay on.
Look for a post by "sloaccord" I think. he was using his stock lugs on aftermarket wheels and one of his front wheels FELL OFF.
If anyone has been getting by with oem or acorn lugs, more power to you. But a $40 set of the CORRECT lugs can save you thousands of dollars down the road, and maybe even your life.
I am using McGard Spline Drive lugnuts in black. Then cost me 70 bux from summit. The kit includes 12 spline drive lugs and 4 wheel locks. I also use skunk2 forged alloy lugs on my race wheels.

I use Gorilla lug nuts. You can get them many places. I got mine at Discount Tire. When you get your new lug nuts compair them to your old lug nuts and you will see how different the mounting area is.

Put your finger in the lug seat. If it feels like a little bowl, you can use your stock lugs. If it's smooth and tapered, you need to buy new ones.
i am kind confused on what an acorn shaped lug nut is...what do you mean by an acorn shaped lug nut...?
