Default Buying a prelude........

Well, I'll admit it, I'm a racer. I like the speed and everynow n then i like speed in illegal places....but shhh thats between you and me and the rest of the world. At the time being i own a 77 pontiac trans am, 400CID 6.6 litre and it runs like a fat man after ice cream. I have to sell it because i need something alittle cheaper and alittle more reliable than a 30 year old car. I have always had a kind of love affair with the preludes and wanted one since i was young, so naturally this would be my next car. Of course a jump from 6.6 to 2.2 will be noticeable and i would like to try and make it somewhat less noticeable, which is where my question comes in. How hard is it to turbo a prelude, and how much modification does the engine require to do so? I am set on getting a 5th, i believe, generation.....the last gen. And have budgetted about 11-12k towards car and mods.....too little?
Any advice is welcomed......
Thanks
-Soxx

And P.S. I don't want a million hp and it wouldn't be a strip car really, just i need some giddy-up in my cars and im looking foreward to having some handling now too. A lude in the 300 hp neighborhood would suit me i believe.

Nitrous will be your best friend on a Prelude!

Unless you can find a damn good deal on a 5th gen, then 11-12k is nowhere enough to buy the car and get it to 300hp reliably.

Look into a 4th gen. They are lighter and cheaper! You can slap a supercharger on it with a base 6psi pulley and you don't realy need to do any other mods as long as you keep it at 6psi. It would be good to get a nice i/h/e and an intercooler. good luck.

I was pretty sure that the 6.6 Liters were 403 OLDS and the 6.6 T/A was a 402 Pontiac. I stand corrected......I believe there was a lawsuit against GM for that 403 OLDS engine....

Well it's not that big of a deal, find out through research and asking people. None the less, back on topic...
I personally love 4th gens better than 3rd/5th gen Preludes, I always have. I would say if you have some money to spend to get a Honda, get a Prelude.

EDIT- I'm getting my 4th gen (first car ) this Friday. I cannot wait.

true do some research, look through the 4th gen pic thread and 5th gen picture thread. also check out the faqs, lots of interesting things there, like seriously modding your prelude

It would have to be a 5 speed no doubt, just because autos break all the time and from what i've heard the preludes isn't any different. For an 8 psi turbo set up on a stock H22 would i have to swap rods and what not and get all forged or could it handle 6-8 psi? The money/budget situation could be raised i just like knowing my ballpark so thats no big deal.
