Default Brand New GT35R Hybrid leaking oil...

This is for a 94 Rx7 I have been working on for a friend.

Bolted up the turbo among some other misc stuff...

Fired the car up..let it idle a few mins..I blipped the throttle w/my thumb & boom..oil shot out the compressor side...not the compressor wheel intake..but the compressor outlet...

Pulled the downpipe and it looks like some leaked out the exhaust side. It has a small feed from the stock location, the turbo has a built in restrictor. I thought there may have been a problem w/the return, although it's still in the stock location..

Pulled it, let it run into a pan..so it goes straight down...test for flow or backed up...oil comes out ok..nothing crazy..

Still seems it is leaking..if I blip the throttle..motor idles fine..turbo wheel spins perfectly smooth...no shaft play in or out.

Possiby faulty from the get go?

Ideas?

-3 is fine for a 35r, I still suggest running a .035" restrictor.

The built in restrictor is not geared to "restrict" enough to what the GT series needs. The GT series family needs a very small amount of oil to function, as the oil is solely for lubrication of the cartridge; while with a standard CHRA the oil acts as the lubricant and coolant.

Run the .035" restrictor, it's so cheap, and saves you the headache.

Enough with these "my GT series is blowing oil, the oil drain is fine and i'm not running a restrictor" questions already, I think this is the 5th this week.

Rotaries have very high oil pressure, you def need to add a restrictor. Contact Stan for a -3 one, only a few places have them in that size.

Just curious, how much oil pressure does a rotary produce at idle?

I am not 100% sure if it's a -3 or -4. Regardless, it's the same restrictor internally. I can adapt it. No biggie.

The -3 and -4 refers to the line that you are going to connect to the restrictor. How are you going to "adapt it"? The only way you could make it work would be if you got a male -3an to female -4an fitting which is just a big wast of money since you can just buy a -3 restrictor, screw it in and call it a day. That is if he has a -3 feed line. The built in restrictor should be left in and never removed, It will void the warranty. (if you were talking at all about it)

I am not going to remove the built in one..lol.

I think it's a -4an so I will be fine..

Besides I couldn't find a place that sells -3an ??

are u sure you have the turbo clocked right? cause if u have your intake and out lines opposite it will burn massive oil. the return is marked usually with an R right below where ur line connects in the center section of the turbo

If you are asking if I have the feed/return backwards? No. The oil feed only screws into one and the return only goes in one way. Besides I know what they look like...

Not my first setup...just never seen one leak like a sive on startup..lol.

Bolted up like a charm.

Fired up...I can't tell if it's still seaping a tad...or it's residue left over...let it idle for a few...see what happens...

Could there be any long term damage running it w/o the restricter in place?

Idled for 5 mins or so w/o it and only reved it a few times around 4k...
