Compression on h22a
So it started out yesterday when I was at the track and I misshifted going from 3rd to 4th, it wouldn't go in for some reason and I tried so hard it went into second, and the rpms sky rocketed. Anyways, I noticed the car started to jerk a little bit in gear but the enging still ran fine, sounded fine, and idled fine, but on my next run I did horrible, I got a 15.4 which is horrible because I thought I did great that run but my car felt slower. So when I got home I did a compression test to see if I bent any valves or anything. Compression was 230-240 all the way across. So i'm still at a loss here what could have happened and what could have been damaged? Also, is that good compression for a jdm h22a? Thanks.
Sweet I'm glad the compression is good... Actually I don't do alot of drag racing, that was my second time ever, 3rd and 4th run ever. But the thing is last time stock for my h22 I got 15.1, and I didn't have any practice, I'm still not too experienced but not I got I/H/E and the best I could pull off is 15.4. Maybe it's cause it keeps giving me a cel for the tps. I can't figure out how to fix it, I swapped out 2 tps sensors, calibrated them to .45V, checked em again and again and still get the code. Also checked my wires for continuity.

you buy a compression tester at an automotive store. Anyways, another question, when do u know that u need to adjust ur valves? I hear them ticking ( i think) but it's not very loud and only in lower rpms.
I got a dc sports header and down pipe, but i got a nice tanabe hyper medallion exhaust, shoulda add alot more power than stock, it's 2.36 piping, I'm still usin my stock cat though.

you just answered your own question.

yeah. feel your spark caps. if you can feel them bouncing/smacking alot you need to adjust them (or hear that little tick)(your hear a knock than your in shiet). Needed Valve adjustments arn't going to kill your power though if its a light tick like you indicate.
stock cat is steming your exhaust flow either way (depending on age it could be garbage maybe?)
open your cat or get a high flow performance one.
maybe your cat is plugging or plugged.
sounds like motor could be fine though, maybe your tranny is doushed

" if you can feel them bouncing/smacking alot you need to adjust them (or hear that little tick)(your hear a knock than your in shiet)" What do you mean by a knock? My lude is in need of valve tunning, should get it done in a few weeks, but my lude sounds kinda wierd. It almost sounds like when u take a bolt and tap the aluminium block. Is that a normal valve lash sound or is that a knock, if it is what needs to be replaced?
a knock is very distinguishable from a tick. go knock a wooden block against a metal block and it will sound kinda like that. A tick is quieter and is usually only really noticible at idle like a moron clicking his pen non stop
the knock would be allover power band and very noticible "clunk clunk clunk"
also to isolate sounds use a long hallow tube (im using 3/4" pvc pipe). If you listen down the tube and point the end at certain area's its able to show you where sounds come from. hold the other end right above valves and listen. The tick is from there. A clunk will come from your block. (block is on bottom, head is where valves and exhaust/intake ports are)
if its a knock get ready for a motor teardown lol (sorry if thats your case

you can pinpoint which valves in specific need adjustments, by listening how i described (stethoscope works perfectly) but mayaswell reset all valves while your inthere.
don't go too tight if its your first time setting valves. go to spec exactly or go a fraction less.

Hey, i kinda found the location where the tapping sound is comming from, it seems to be comming from the exhaust manifold. Is this were you are supposed to hear valve lash? Is it possible to tell if valves are burnt? Im starting to wonder about mine, the sound is continous through the rev range but its not a constant sound, when reving it several times in a row, it gets significantly louder and then softer at random intervals. I guess ill really see whats going on when the valves get tuned.
