it's been done. i've done it. i have a gt35r with the 4 bolt backhousing and i was running into space constraints so i had a machine shop cut off the 4 bolt flange on the backhousing itself and had a buddy TIG weld a 3 inch v-band flange on there so i no longer have to worry about trying to get bolts in in tight spaces. but you also have to pay attention to what type of material the turbine housing is actually made of. if it's made from cast iron...you're prolly just better off gettin a new backhousing with the necessary output flange on it from the get go to help simplify things. V-band owns.
