Default boost b16B

i'm thinking of boosting my b16B, i've searched and all i can come up w/ is to sell the 16B. I'm just wondering if since my motor is basically a destroked 1.8 that i could get pistons and rods anlong w/ a crank and have a 1.8 w/ low compression. Does anyone have an idea what i should do?

what? do you mean take the internals out of the b16 and use them in a b18 ?

The pistons will fit, but there not going to increase displacement. If you want to make ur b16 ti 1.8 you need to get the Crankshaf and rods from a b18. Im not sure about clearances, i no there are some kits out there to stroke them do 2.0.

I don't see a problem in boosting the B16B as it stands as long as the condition of the engine and supplementals are still intact..

B16s are better NA motors. They have an optimal rod ratio (for high revs), a shorter stroke, and a lower rotating mass, ideal for reving to the moon. But they aren't good turbo engines (not enough displacement, too much turbo lag). My buddy has one in his DA and REALLY wishes (in hindsight) that he had gone with an LS motor or a CRV block. As they say, there is no replacement for displacement, and vtec can only do so much. Bigger is ALWAYS better when it comes to forced induction.

i wish i wouldn't have gotten the 16B, i just wanted to be different from everyone else w/ b series swaps. So i got the 16B, with no intentions on boosting it, Untill i got rid of the STi. Now i crave boost.

b16's arent great for all motor cars. The produce no torque. A better all motor car would be a b18 or b20. With vtec heads on it

Dont listen to dsnyder305.

What will be the weaklink in your boosted b16b project is going to be the high compression combined with weak pistons for boost. Tuning is going to be key here, without an excellent tune i wouldnt risk turboeing the motor. People boost b16's all the time, turbo lag is pretty much inevitable. I think you could lay down 280-330whp reliably depending on what turbo you go with.

i plan on upgrading the pistons, rings, and crank. I also plan on using a GT35R. But i'm not sure what CR pistons to use.

What do you plan to use the car for? The power will not change with either low or high compression, but acceleration rate and use can make a difference.

mainly as a DD, but i would like to get some track time w/ it also. I just think it would be a very fun car w/ Boost. plus it would be different there are NO b16b's where i live, and if anyone else gets one it sure wont be boosted. *i hope*

Okay, the GT35R is WAY too big of a turbo for a b16. You seriously wouldn't make full boost until you hit 7000+ rpm. Go with a GT2871R (Disco Potato), or a GT30R with a lower A/R ratio. That way you can build boost MUCH sooner. And when you're picking a CR, having a lower CR means you can boost more without having to worry about detonation, but it also means that your engine is going to be much more boost dependent to make any power. I've got 9:1 JE pistons, but I want it to be a little lower (so I can boost more), so I'm gonna slap a commetic MLS gasket on it. There are all sorts of different companies out there that make pistons for your car, so there is alot of choices.

WTF?

A t3-t67 .63a/r will see full boost at about 5500rpm on a b16a2.(And the engine will crave for moore rpm than the limiter

Why should not a GT35R work with a b16b, I believe it is faster than the T67unit.

But I would rather take a GT3076 for DD.

u can put and ls crank and rods in the b16b block and u would have a ls if u want a 2.0 u would just have to sleeve the block and bore it out to 84mm. u have the most versatile block in hondas line up imagine u have a 2.0 that is stamped b16 on the block
