I have a JDM 4-1 on my car and the flange is starting to rust. I plan on taking the header off while I am redoing my suspensions, gutting my A/C, and swapping in brakes. What can I do to stop the rust, and has anyone else had this problem?
im having this problem with my SS Comptech headers...i have not thought about doing anything about it though...kinda sucks since i thought comptech was of a little better quality than that...

IM thinking I will sand off the small bit of rust and then put something on it. But it gets so damn hot! What wont combust?
AFAIK, header manufacturers of stainless headers do NOT use stainless flanges. The corporate line I've heard is, "the mild steel better matches the thermal characteristics of the aluminum head." I think that line is wrong, the real reason is that a mild steel flange is much cheaper than a stainless flange.
About the only thing you could send it out to be ceramic-type coating.

Thats the same reply i got on another board. I think I may mask it off and hit the flange w some paint after I sand it off. WIll probably come out ugly and might not hold up but I need to save dollars for other things right now.
