How to make a b20/vtec RELIABLE?
yes yes bla bla i know i know its been covered "do a search" but i dont want to sift through 3,000 threads of people asking whats needed to do a b20 vtec. ive read http://www.crvtec.com and c-speeds' b20/vtec buildup and i know how to do it.
Im worried about this.
1) reliability. as we all know the rod/stroke ratio might cause a problem for revvin to 8000+ on a semi regular basis. what would be a way around this?
2) I will be boosting, but not immediatley (unless i fully build the b20 before i install it) so for a slapped together b20/vtec (totally stock internals) what can be done to increase reliability (it may be like this for about 6 months)
Someone reccomended the endyn breather kit. anyone else using this? also oil squirters. good idea? (while its stock)
yea i know lots of questions. anything would be helpful
TIA - Joe

Re: How to make a b20/vtec RELIABLE? (KAMiN)
I'll be honest with you, i dont want to burst your bubble, but in extreme swapping, a B20 may not be the way to go, especially with a turbo. I wouldnt trust it for 5 minutes. UNLESS you re-sleeved (golden eagle baby) your block, but if you did that, buying the block would have been pointless, because a 1.8 LS engine, re-sleeved, you could get your 2.0 liters of displacement and after some mods have a healthy redline of at least 9600, and not worry about it. I know it sounds cooler, my engines from the big suv, as opposed to the slow *** integra, but hey, its just my opinion anyways. But than again, this is in terms of N/A. You dont wanta hella-high compression for a turbo'd car, but the cr on the B20B is stupid low, get yourself a B20Z and maybe a little better but............

How long do you want it to be reliable for?? Stock bottom end I don't think revving to 8k would be a good idea. If you are planning to go turbo with it, and if you are going to upgrade it then, why even install it in your car now...to take it out 6 months down the road?
If you are going to put it in your car now, if I were you I would keep max rpms around 7500, and don't worry about the piston oil squirters until you go turbo. Then you may see some benifit. Unless you want to rev it high for extended periods while NA

B20+vtec+BOOST=very hard, very expensive, and VERY FAST
making any honda motor fast is very expensive and very hard.

I would say to buy the B20 and go ahead and get it resleeved. At some point you'll want to do that anyways and if you have 6 months to kill, what better way. Alot of people are shotpeening rods and getting ARP rod bolts, I'd just say to get Eagle rods which come with the ARP rod bolts. They are very beefy.

Re: How to make a b20/vtec RELIABLE? (badCRX)
I'd say to start with the B18B shortblock. They can usually be found cheaper and easier than B20's. A B20 is the same block as the B18B only it has different (bore size, material) sleeves. You could start with a B20 block but why not leave those around for the n/a guys?
I also agree to replace the rods with something stronger (Eagle, Crower, Probe, etc). Or at least replace the rod bolts with ARPs and check out all of the bearing oil clearances. A girdle and piston squirters well IMO those are all left up to opinion.
So do you want to install it then remove 6 months later to build or do you want to build it before installing? I'm confused as to what you wanted to do.

i was just gonna slap it together for like 6 months while i come up with the money to fully build it(pistons, rods, turbo, fuel system, etc) then pull it and have it sleeved.
