I installed some new parts this weekend and a Skunk2 Intake Manifold was one of them. I used the hondata gasket too. When I accelerate hard it whistles. I'd think its air being sucked in between the head and the gasket or the gasket and the manifold. I dont think this is a good thing b/c it is not filtered. My question is has anyone else had this, is it normal? Should I over torque the nuts since the gasket is thicker and plastic?

 

someboy has to have had this problem, i've read it on here before.

Its normal. Every SKUNK2 manifold I have seen on a GSR whistles.

Check the gaskets. Spray some carb cleaner with the engine running around the manifold and find where the leak is.

could be air rushing past the throttle plate also

 

yes it sounds like you have a leak in the intake manifold gasket
is the idle a little higher than normal?
spray the carb cleaner and see if it stops/goes away.

 

jsut a quick question. Why carb cleaner?? What makes it special??

Yeah, mine whistles under acceleration and when I get off the throttle. It only does it when the engine is under load so when I rev the car sitting, it is very hard to hear. Everywhere I take it people think it's normal, I'd like to find out if it is a leak. Let me know If you find out anything.

 

Thanks all for the replies, im going to try the carb cleaner after work today. Will it FIX it or leak out so i can find the leak? For those of who who say it's normal, did you torque the nuts to spec or just crank them down? Normal/common makes me feel a little better but it dosent mean its right or a good thing. I will keep everybody posted.
And yes my idle is a little high, I thougt it was the mugen program that I installed at the same time, good point though.

Mine whistled when I put it on. A few months later, when I installed an ITR throttle body, it whistled a little louder, but it didn't affect performance negatively, so I'm cool with it.

 

Nothing to worry about. My Skunk whistles also. I think its because of the larger inlet. im not to sure. But its deffinately nothing to worry about. Besides its cool when ricers think its a turbo.

 

you spray carb cleaner arounfd the flanges and if the idle changes while you are spraying it, then you have a leak. i just noticed mines whistles too under load and my idle is high also. i thought it was the mugen program i installed, but it seems to idle high on my stock ecu as well.

 

yup, i got a leak. i sprayed carb fluid and sure enough my idle went down. So I went to tighten some of my nuts up and some were loose!! So I put blue locaite onthem and cranked them down to 2lbs over reccomended pressure. No whistle and my idle is down to 750 where it should be. Mad love to all who helped, Thanks guys!
