Ok, I am just sharing my experience with everyone on how my swap went. I know its not a big change but it was my first swap so its a start for me. And before anyone starts bashing me, I KNOW D15B IS A WEAK ENGINE WITHOUT TURBO. Ok? My main deal is just getting my car in perfect running condition. I don't care about turbo right now. PLEASE DO NOT POST NEGATIVITY ON THIS THREAD!

Ok, Now the reason I am replacing the engine, is because the lower end had a knock and I had some extra cash to do this. So I ordered a JDM D15b engine (without a tranny) from hmotors online. I paid around 800$ including shipping. Then I stopped at my local auto parts store and bought a clutch kit...(pressure plate, throwout bearing, and clutch). I paid 115$ for the kit.

I already had all the tools I needed to do this job, so I didn't have to go out and buy anything major, except a engine hoist. I bought an engine hoist used for 150$, and it was in perfect working condition and gave me no problems.

The people doing the swap were my dad and I, and then we had the occasional person stop by to say hi that came and gave us a helpful hint or tip.

The only problem we really had was the motor mounts weren't the same from the engines, so we just disconnected the mounts from the two engines, and put my z6 mount on the d15b. We haven't dropped the engine back in yet, because were still prepping it to be ready to do so, we are dropping it in today, so wish us luck and I will keep you updated!!!

Well, we ran into a few problems that had us making some minor adjustments, but everything so far is going good. We just have to recconect hoses, and do some wiring to get it running. Hopefully goes well tommorrow, I'll keep updating!

I have a problem, i dont know whats wrong. My clutch is loose, like the pedal goes to the floor and doesn't come up, i dont know how to explain it.


Also, the car is running now, but theres an idleing problem, it revs itself from like 2k rpm to 2.2k rpm


Anyone know???

 

idle screw bro... mine did the exact same thing. also check your throttle cable nuts and make sure they aren't pulled back too far

edit: check the tension on your clutch cable at the master cylinder (slave cylinder w/e)

 

Yeah, but when I give the car gas also, it doesn't do anything? What do you think it is now? Could it be something electrical

 

nothing at all? check that throttle cable... i didn't put mine through the clamp and tighten the screws on the intake mani and it had a weird *** idle like you said and it also wouldn't do anything when i hit the gas pedal...

check your tps (throttle positioning sensor) on the throttle body make sure it is clean

I'm doing a swap into my 93 del sol. Your clutch is hydrolic right??? Did you bleed it after you hooked it up?? Should be just like bleeding brakes...There is a little bleeder valve near the tranny.

 

yes my clutch is hydrolic. I am pretty sure i'm gonna have to bleed it i haven't got that far yet, but yes its near the tranny (the bleeder)

duh... lol I figured you'd already done that... that'll definately fix your clutch problem

edit: i got an idle problem now too... it's bein retarded!

 

I just swapped in a JDM D15B in my EJ8, it was my first swap, started right up! But has idle surge. Have fun! If your clutch is going down and not comming back up it needs to be bled. Just unscrew the nipple at the end of the trans and have someone in the car pump the clutch then close the nipple, contiune untill your clutch starts to engage. Good Luck!
