Axle Woes
I still am having a hell of a time getting my axle back into the transmission of my swap. It is a new 94 axle identical to the one that came installed on the car. It is locked into the transmission but it isn't snug against the tranny, there is a small gap. I have new seals on the transmission and have even tried hitting the end of the axle with a larger hammer to pop it in deeper. I am so boggled. Does the gear the transmission is in matter? Does the order of installment of each axle matter? I don't know what to do. I just want to finish this swap before I go off to Cal Poly. If any of you HondaTechnicians live out in Sonoma County, Ca (North Bay Area) want to come out and help out a fellow enthusiasts or anything I need some help real bad. Thanks
I think you just need to hit harder. If it's identical (I assume you compared the 2 shafts) it should just go in with a little bit of coercing. If the splines on both ends don't match up exactly you might have the wrong axle. I had a recent problem with this as well. The part was correct in the computer at the parts store, but there was another application that they didn't come up with at first. Hope you get through your troubles.
So whats up with the axle locking in, if I want to try to reinstall it I have to pop it out with some force. I am tempted to try to leave the axle like this and have a shop install the axle proper if it could hold a short distance to a garage.
