Question about replacing rear lower shock bushing
Well in my attempt to put my skunks2 and AGXs on I broke both lower shock bolts. After not being able to drill them out we decided to burn the bushings out and I'd just get new ones. I know that stock bushings need to be pressed in which would mean both lower control arms need to come out. The problem is that I can't get the outer pivot bolt out on one of the control arms because it's frozen. Poly bushings do not need to be pressed in right? There also looks like a metal ring that is still in the control arm which you can see in the pic. Is this part of the bushing or attached to the control arm? It looks like it's part of the control arm. Does this need to come out?
I haven't even attempted the front yet. Am I going to have the same problems with the front ones?

yes thats the metal part from the bushing itself, you have to take that out, you can press it out if you have the CA out, if not, find the same size socket and hammer it out, it would be easier if you cut a line thru the metal ring with a saw, so when you hammer it, it will come out easier, hope this will help you out, good luck
the fronts should be ok cause they don't rusted up like the rear does

Man that's what I was afraid of. Maybe I can use my dremel and cut the ring and then smash it out. That's gotta be one big socket to fit around that ring. Time to go to Sears and get a craftsman one. Good thing it's a lifetime warranty. Anyone else have any tips for getting the ring out?
What about taking a small chisel to the side of it? Would that help. What about an air hammer? Is this easier to do it while it's in the car or off?
I had to take an extremely strong air hammer to shoot that metal part out. I've tried pressing it out too, but it was frozen on the LCA's pretty well and I would simply start bending the LCA. Sawing it off sounds good, but tedious. The fronts should come out easier than the rears (always a problem area), but don't count on it.
Good luck!

Now I'm thinking maybe I should just get two lower control arms. But I can't get the outer pivot bolt out on one of the lower control arms. Any tips for that one? What about heating it up? That bolt shouldn't be frozen too bad since it rotates right?
We polished ours....big difference. Bushings don't squeak as much. For the full article...go here: http://www.overboost.com/story.asp?id=426

Thanks guys. I ended up getting the outer pivot bolt out and I'm just gonna get two new lower control arms instead. I tried cutting a line and then smashing it out but all I did was mangle the ring.
