Default CEL from Intake

I've heard if i put an intake on my car it will cause a check engine light to go off. I've had intakes on all my other cars, but they don't have an sensor on the bottom like my 04 Civic DX does. Is that the MAF sensor? and if so, is there a particular brand of intake i should buy that will prevent the CEL?

I tried searching so if this topic has been covered, if someone could just post a link and lock it, that would be great.

you shouldn't get a CEL as long as you connect the sensor, MAF or MAP, whatever it's called.

yep, it'll have it, the cheap ones should too. i dont think you get a CEL from not having it connected, i think the car just runs funny, not sure.

Even my cheap ebay intake has a place for the mass airflow sensor, or whatever it's called.

Used to have a cheap Ebay intake. Mine had the spot for the sensor as well. Never had CEL come on for either intake I've had.

even if you buy a tube, all you need to do is drill out a hole for the mass airflow sensor. Injen intakes already have it built in so it'll work. So will K&N and AEM intakes

that sensor is the intake manifold temp sensor u can be a jerk and leave it jus like ziptied off out of the way but odds are you will proly get bad reading to ecu and will *** with ur A/F ratio in the ecu...jus get acheapy intake and k/n filter and if the cheapy dont have a hole...take the rubber grommet out of the stock intake, drill hole a lil smaller than grommet , pop grommet in cheap intake and push the sensor into the intake piping...dont turn car on while sensor is out or u will get a CEL. cel FTW! need more details on this proceedure jus pm me my buddy had to intall his intake sensor himself cuz he used a 2000 intake. very easy tho

Yea, when I had a 99 Si I got in an accident and my intake cracked. The seal around the sensor was broken and that threw a CEL. But pretty much anything will have that built in. It wont throw a CEL.

I am pretty sure there is only a vacum hose and thermostate on the intakes, I think the afs is in the throttle body I could be wrong.

it doesnt matter if the intake has the bung hole for it. Just hook up the damn sensor and re-set ur ecu and the cel will go away.
