Default Car died.....what happened...

ok so I was cruising at 60mph and then my car just flat out died. There is no power to my vtec controller, fuel pump is not turning on, and no spark. THe car just turns over. I changed dizzies with my friend but nothin happened. Would the main relay go bad mid drive? Did the ECU fry up? I dont understand why there is no power to the vtec controller, but the stereo works, and the dash lights all come on. We jumped the thing to check engine codes....it does not flash, stays constant. HELP!!!

First, forget about your v-tech controller.

No the main relay does not usually go out in mid flight.

Is your timing belt turning your cam?

Yup. Or you can remove the oil cap, have someone turn over and you'll be able to see the cam turn. If not, belt is broken. Lets start there.

oh. no the timing belt is not broken, i have already removed and trimed the valve cover and plastics to adjust my cam gears. I have the greddy belt, brand new....but it is not broken, I can see it right here infront of me... what us next to check? Why am i not getting spark? I thought theat they igniter thing went bad, so i traded dizzies with my friend, but that did not help.

Just because the belt is there, doesn't mean it's turning. So JUST in case, I'd turn it over.

How do you know you have no spark?

By the way, a thread a few lines below (basic diag.) you may want to check out. It breaks some things down.

I'd check all your fuses next. You can do this with a test light. Turn your car all the way ON, but don't crank it over, right before crank. Now make sure your test light has a GOOD ground, and touch each side of each fuse (two sides per fuse). It should light up on both sides, if not, it's blown. Go there next.

ya, the belt is turning tho. I checked the spark the good ol fashion way, pull the plug out, plug it in to the plug wire, groun it, and crank the motor over....no spark. I read the thread on " no start"....nice write up. I have already check most of the fuses in the fuse box located under the hood...i dont have the fuse box cover for the one under the dash...but i will check them all, i am at college so most of my tools are not with me, so i will just go pull each one out, and check it to see if it is still good. thanks for your help...be right back

when you get back, post your make model and year. And post your mods (if your comfortable), that may have something to do with it.

I can probably pull a diagram and we might be able to see what power the dist. is getting or not getting.

hmmmm. Well not sure what fuse that is for sure. But obviously replace it anyway and see if it starts and/or blows the fuse again.

Was the distributor you swapped out of a running car? The ecu is a possibility seeing how it's chipped, but really not sure on that.

Diagrams for the distributor. Would it be your car, or looking up a Prelude Vtech?

ya the other h22a distributer we used was out of a friend running h22. But it was really bright out when we checked for spark. So i have a friend comin over in 5 mins and we are going to check for spark again since it is not so bright out now. The diagram would be for a prelude DOHC vtec, ya. My friend is also bringin me another fuse, so i will let you know what happens here in a little bit...

If your not getting any spark and your fuel pump isn't coming on, I would assume its a much bigger fuse than a 10

Look at some wire diagrams of the fuel pump. I bet if you can track down why taht isn't coming on, I bet that same fix will fix the rest of your car. I don't know if you have done this already, but also check the fuses in the ehgine bay as well.

You also may want to put your stock ecu back in and click the key twice (you dont have to start it) and hear for the fuel pump primeing, I guess this could also be a ecu problem. Good luck.

if you have a chitty head unit, check out the "ECU" fuse. it could be that the headunit is ******* around with it. happened to me before. wasn't getting any spark. got a new distributor, new coil, etc. but it was a ******* 2 dollar fuse. lol.

so yeah, check that.
