Default i havent found my answer: idle problem

my setup: D16y7
ok so ive read up mos of this stuff.... but heres my problem. so i start up the engine when its cold and it revs upto 1200rpm once it warms up completely then the engine revs upto 1600rpm.... so once the car was warmed up i took off the intake and covered up the bottom hole (the FITV) and the car shut off! now supposevely the the FITV shouldnt be sucking any air after the car is warmed up so im ??? i took out the IACV and cleaned the screen put back on and the same thing... what should i do??

If the fitv was sucking air after warm up then you need to repair or replace it. It sounds like that is your problem

Yes, but in addition to the fact that it should be closed when warm, if you plugged it with your finger and the car shut off, then your throttle plate needs adjusted as well.

Disassemble the thermal valve, repair the issue whether it be the seat or the thermowax unit, reinstall with new o-rings or a touch of Hondabond, then set your idle per Helm's with the IACV disco'd. If you have the two pin IACV you can also just hit it with 12 volt's directly and it should click open and shut if it's functioning properly.

Also, just to be sure, check your ignition timing after the idle adjustment. Timing can have a pretty moderate effect on the idle speed in my experience. So I'd do the idle adjustment, set timing, then compensate with any final idle adjustment afterwards.

i had the same problem with my 2000 em1 b16, i tried messing with the vaccum bolt adjuster and didnt get any positive results, a diagnostic test will pin point the sensor that is giving you that annoying idle. if poeples ask wats dat!!?!?? just say you got racing cams.

These responses are great.

There is no FITV on a Y7. The IACV is what's bolted to the throttle body. And don't unplug it expecting the idle to lower like a 2-wire IACV - they don't operate the same.

does the TB face up (instead of to the side)? if so, then yes you have one.

Take a picture of the entire engine, from the front (exhaust side), and it will be easier for us. A y7 manifold has the TB facing up, the y5 and y8 intake manifold have the TB facing the passenger side.

For the y5/y8, idle is supposed to be set by warming up the car, pulling the IACV plug, adjusting idle to 400-500rpm, reconnecting the IACV, then resetting the ecu.

This assumes your valves are adjusted correctly, your timing is set properly, that you have no intake leaks - essentially that the engine has been tuned up recently. Otherwise any little problem with a poorly adjusted idle will compound problems, and make them harder to diagnose. And no bullshit "I'm pretty sure its set right", you check it all out and confirm it. MANY people have chased problems around for weeks because they felt sure something was correct that really wasn't.
