my girlfriend has a 99 LX 4cyl, and it stalls every third or fourth time she drives it while driving. It starts right back up but just randomly stalls. She doesnt have the money to have a mechanic do a thorough search of the car, so I am looking for suggestions that I could check out. I can do most basic inspections, but any internal components i want to stay away from. My first thought is the fuel pump, but im just looking for other places to check as well.

See if you can make it happen by wiggling the key. It's not too unusual for the electrical part of the ignition switch to get flaky.

Got 12 pounds of keys on that key ring??

 

Maybe you could call up the local dealer and see if your VIN is included in the ignition switch recall
