Really depends on the chip...some of the base maps loaded can be very harmful to your engine. Specially some of those ebay specias like CTR chip or Mugen or Spoon, any of the knock offs.

if you throw in a blind tune ebay type chip, expect your engine to run rich and make no power.
with a real tune on a dyno even without mods you can clean up the a/f ratio's and make a little power.
