Default Oil light blinking

Just got a 2000 prelude 166,xxx km's. Its running 5w-30 Castrol Full synthetic. I was on the highway and opened it up. I was in 4th hitting vtec then the the oil light started flashing, so i immediately let off and the light went off shortly after, nothing over a minute. I took it easy the rest of the way home of course. The oil was at about 1/2 to 3/4's full. I am pretty stumped on this, i've read a couple threads but none that was like mine.

Also this has happened twice to me. I forgot to mention that. It happened the first time and then I filled the oil. Then a week later when i opened it up on the same highway the light came on and turned off.

I know there isn't any leaks because im on the driveway/ garage. Vtec for surely engages. Maybe the oil is too thick? Temperature is around 15-25 celsus outside and will be getting hotter in summer. I've always used 5w-30 all year around but maybe a different story for the Prelude?

I will be changing the oil tommorow because it looks a little dark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

carry a bottle of synthetic in your trunk too. you'll drink oil when hitting vtec. if oil is lower than you won't even be able to hit vtec.

If the pressure sensor goes bad will Vtec still engage? i.e. thre is a seperate pressure switch for Vtec to operate?

I have no clue, but I am hitting vtec. So possibly a sensor going bad? Can't really go out and test it i guess.(fear of wrecking something).

maybe your oil pickup is clogged or your really didnt have 2-3 quarts in there, put 5 in for those fast corners.

by putting 5 quarts in will it damage anything? right now i put 4 and a half and it is perfectly in the middle of the dots but i have had the light pop on during constant hard cornering but it stops after that.

put the oil in until it reads correctly on the dipstick. By adding too much oil you can cause other problems.

if your light is blinking then there is some other problem. The dipstick will not lie to you. Therefore there has to be another problem somewhere.
