Default foolish to buy 100K used civic?

Is it foolish to buy a 100K used civic and expect the same or almost the same quality as if I bought a 50K one? Do the extra few grands make a difference? I've never owned a honda so I'm unsure if the motor and car starts to vibrate after 100K or what.

Although it's a Honda, and they have some of the most reliable components out there, you're looking at 50k more miles. I guess it depends on who the owner is/was, because 50k miles with a 16yr. old F&F 'wannabe' is going to beat on a car a lot more than a 60yr. Grandma who daily drives to bingo.

Do most cars after 100K have some what vibrating and shaking to the car? I currently drive a corolla that has a 120K and it vibrates a tad bit and I've taken care of it including replacing timing belt, etc etc, and it didnt vibrate when I first got it. I'm a daily freeway driver to school and so I would like something reliable and comfortable.

Hey I play bingo man, and I love to F&F

But to the OP its just like Matt said, and it depends on the price of the car too.

And about the shaking it could be a number of things, mainly it turns out to be a.new tires b.alignment c.balance in the wheels.

I don't think its the wheels, as the engine sort of vibrates a little, including the deck at long red lights or during drive throughs.

I'm just curious to know who has 100K or more civics and how do they run compared to when their mileage was lower? is there much difference? Do they vibrate? Is it a smooth ride? currently I'm looking at this 110K civic at 7,000 from a private dealer (not counting registration, license fees, etc) and at a dealer one at around 11,000(Including all fees and taxes) and only 48K
for civic coupe 2001 in the southern california area

Some do, some don't. It all depends on what you buy. What it comes down to is the model, as far as longevity goes. You sound like you do all the maintenance required for a vehicle to operate for a long lifespan, so I doubt it's in your methods. I have a friend who's got nothing but highway miles on his 1994 Corolla, and it has some shakes/vibrations as well. Does it run fine, sure, but it still has the shakes like an 80 year old.

I don't know what kind of dollar amount you have for a budget, but if you can afford 15k or so, you can get a barely used 2007 Honda Fit with less than 20,000 miles on it. It'll get you fantastic gas mileage, and can hold 4 people comfortably. I've seen a Fit last well over 200,000 miles before getting the standard shakes that older cars can get, so you'd be covered for quite a long time.

If only cash wasnt an issue... but to me it seriously is so thats why I'm deciding whether the 4,000 extra dollars is worth 50K
I do plan to have the car for at least 5 years with daily freeway driving.

yes, the first link is the 11,000 car i mentioned. taxes, licenses, papers, smog, etc etc fees jack up theprice and that dealer customer service is a real pain, but its the cheapest so far (dealership wise) ive seen.

Well. Dealers will tell you the story of the car in a perspective to make you want to buy it. i personally will tell you from experience. i sold my altima it was in the worst condition ever.. it was my first car. i like matt said played F&F (fast and furious) with it. lol i strait up floored it. did lots of things and i experienced new things with that car..... Rain unfortunantly made me hydro plain while i was in hydroplain a car behind me taped me and threw me off in a differnt direction.. anyways it was a 1998 Nissan Altima Auto with about 180k miles. i got it at 155k and drove it for 1 year 1/2. i got it at value of 4k from my uncle. i sold it for 2.6k because it had front end damadge from my stupidity. then i got a 4runner. still have it but i baught my civic with about 43k for 6.2k im verry pleased. i love it it runs perfectly and many parts and pieces for that car are sold cheaper than most models. so i would say a honda is the best bet value for its price. a certain BIG BANG for its BUCK!!

i Bought my car with around 100kmiles.

It was a HELL of a deal, an older lady used it to commute. I bought it, and im sure happy I did, the engine has run like a champ.

Like matt said, it all depends who owned the car first, if they did matience on time, and how hard they drove the car.

so you're saying mileage isnt that big of a deal?
A well maintained 100K car could run just as well as a 50K car?
whats the lifespan of a civic in terms of thousand miles before it loses its smooth feel?

u cant really give a lifespan. It all depends how hard it was driven, where it was driven, if it was maintained well.

My 120+ k car only has 1 fault, my rotors are warped so i get shaking of my wheel/pedal feel in hard braking over 65mph.

other than that, it rides as smooth as it did the day i bought it.

4 cylinder cars normally have more vibration than others.

As the car ages, yes it will vibrate more because the motor mounts are worn!!!!!! my friend has a 93 corolla with 90k miles and her car shakes like crazy. my legs starts to tingle because of the vibration. my 88 civic with 135k miles doesnt vibrate nearly as much.

the mileage all depends on how well the previous owner treated it. GOOD BREAK IN+grandma style driving+ excellent maintenance = long lasting car

Actually the amount of cylinders a car has doesn't relate to vibration as much as the type of mounting system does. Hard engine mounts cause more vibrations. And, typically, the more cylinders you have, the more vibration you stand to make. V8's tend to make a lot more vibration than I4's. It's just that they're mounted on two axis, that you don't feel the same effect.

You'll see V8's often in the Appearance/Cosmetics forum. People like to post their US Muscle often, there. And, I was only using the term "V8" as an example.

Here. I'll give you a better example. If you've ever tried to ride a V8 motorcycle, versus a standard rocket with an I4, you'd know that the V8 makes more vibrations. My butt is numb after getting off of a V8 cycle for 5 minutes, due to the vibrations.

Pretty smooth for me. My Vigor's I-5 shook like a Maytag on it's spin cycle at idle.
