The Cars IACV (idle air control valve) is either clogged, or not functioning. It needs to be either cleaned or replaced.

The IACV is located on the back of the intake manifold, just to the right of the throttle body. Its not hard to get it, its in plain view.

It has a 2-wire plug going to it, and 2 coolant hoses beneath it. Its held on by two 12mm (i think? or 10 i dont remember) bolts.

Remove them, clean out the two ports on it, they gunk-up over time, or the unit needs to be repalced as a whole. When unit stops functioing, it causes the idle to lope between a normal idle (800 or so ) to as you said, about 2 grand or even more

Are you getting an CEL's?

Did you put in a new one? usually you can just clean it.

Check the usuals TB, and FITV too.
